PRESENTING THE EXHIBITION
text written by Margalit Berriet, co-curator of the show
From May 6 to June 16, 2023, Mémoire de l’Avenir invites 30 visual artists and video artists from the Israeli contemporary scenefor the exhibition entitledFOLDED ART, proposed byDoron Polak, co-curator and long-time collaborator, in partnership with theBen Ami galleryin Tel Aviv, (Daniela Aira and Hagit Ben Ami).
The idea for the project was inspired by American artists who could not exhibit their work for political reasons in the 1990s. To get around the censorship, the artists painted on wrappers that they folded into envelopes and sent to the West.
Invited to participate in the collective exhibition, each artist was required to produce a work respecting two unique criteria related to the material constraint:the work had to have the exact dimensions of 180cmx60cmbut also be perfectly foldable, so that it could be slipped into an envelope and sent by post.

LIVE PERFORMANCE
Doron Polak, Passimoon
FRIDAY MAY 5th || 8PM
“The performance is about creating private space. Signing this space. Connecting ourselves to this space. Its about the Police signing tape, red abd white, cheap plastic with the order Do Not Pass! -which is stretched in order to guide you not to cross the line. This tape is usually and normally in the street.
What is happening while its rolled on a live body?”
Doron Polak, artist, theatre director, art curator. Founded his theatre group TARA in the late eighteens in Tel Aviv. For many years show various performances, most of it is about the human body, about freedom, about the usual fight of the single man to find free space for him and for all.
