To be human is to be responsible. It is to feel, by placing one’s brick, that one contributes to the building of the world.

Our objectives are to commemorate individual, cultural, and natural diversity through the arts and culture.

Mémoire de l’Avenir (MDA) was founded in Paris in 2003 by Margalit Berriet, a visual artist.

MDA is a non-profit, non-partisan association operating under the 1901 French law of general interest. Its mission is to use arts, cultural heritage, and human sciences as tools for positive social change, aiming for inclusive and sustainable development of society and nature.

Committed to fighting all forms of discrimination, stereotypes, and cultural ignorance, MDA seeks to promote self-awareness and understanding of others.

Mémoire de l’Avenir brings together artists, scholars and people from diverse backgrounds, using art as a means of expression to address urgent issues related to identities, memories, pluralism, histories, origins, and rights for all living beings and the environment.

Its goal is to bridge differences, disciplines, and individuals through creativity, conveying a message of openness and acceptance, fostering intercultural and cross-cultural dialogue, and advocating for mutual respect among people and between beings and nature.

The association operates at both national and international levels.

By developing interconnected areas of activities, Mémoire de l’Avenir places creativity at the center of its work, fostering critical reflection, education for all, and active and creative participation among scholars, artists, and civilians.

For the ancient Greeks, the “symbol” was a sign of recognition, originally a simple object cut in two, of which two hosts each kept one half, passing them on to their children. These halves were used to recognize the bearers and prove a previous contract of hospitality. (Source: Anatole Bailly)

The etymology of the term evokes the idea of meeting and recognition between people and cultures. Such are the objectives of Mémoire de l’Avenir.
